I go by the pen-name Thales, after the great philosopher, mathematician and engineer, Thales of Miletus, circa 600 BCE. My Email address is Thales97@aol.com and my book THE EVOLUTION OF STAR TRAVEL is one of the first books to be published solely in hypertext on the Web. The address of this book is http://members.aol.com/Thales97/ and is free to all. You are free to copy any document as long as you include the copyright (found at the bottom of each document) and the Web address of the book. My book is about 80,000 words, 250 book pages if it were printed. However, the top level document prints out at only three pages, which can be read in a few minutes, and it states my central thesis and further steps needed. You can then go into it at any depth you wish, avoiding topics you don't like, or already know about.
That is the beauty of hypertext, that and the ability to put in a few artistic garnishes, like illuminated capitals on each paragraph of the top level document.
I have provided a realistic path to star travel, specifically the ability to jump light-years in an instant, a path which violates no laws of physics, nor does it depend on science-fiction, i.e. it doesn't depend on any technology we don't already have, nor does it depend on any discoveries physics has not made. I don't think any other book can make that claim.
Those who know about UFOs (I won't say believe in UFOs) usually suppose that UFO aliens merely know more physics than we do, or have a more advanced technology than we do. As one of the few people who knows both UFOs and 20th Century physics, I am quite sure that this is a false assumption. Oh, they may know more physics than we do, and may have more advanced technology. But I agree with the majority of scientists who say that no foreseeable discovery
in physics and no foreseeable development of technology can ever take us to the stars. They are simply too far away. The difference between scientists and laymen (including science-fiction writers) is that scientists pay attention to the numbers. And the stars are just too far away to ever be reached by any kind of rocket, even a fusion rocket, consuming matter and anti-matter. Follow the links in my book for more lengthy discussion of these issues.
Of course, most scientists conclude from this fact (and I label it a fact) that UFOs do not exist, could not possibly exist, and therefore it is a waste of time to listen to UFO reports, no matter how sincere. The scientists conclude that our only possible contact with alien civilizations is by radio.
But you and I know that UFOs do exist, and there are reasons for thinking that they jump hundreds or thousands of light-years in an instant. No warp nine stuff. The neutrino physicist Krauss has reluctantly shot down every piece of technology in Startrek in his excellent book THE PHYSICS OF STARTREK. The starship Enterprise is a kind of rocket, enhanced by warping space-time passed through. As Krauss points out, it would take all the energy the Sun has produced or ever will produce just to achieve Warp One.
The UFOs cannot get here by technology, and yet they are here. Therefore they do not travel by technology. If I can convince the reader of that central thesis, then we can go on to more fruitful avenues of approach. Physics is not the theory of everything, you know. It is based on a narrow band of the spectrum of reproducible experience, namely the visible and tangible. The Mind is not visible or tangible, therefore it doesn't exist, say the physical scientists, totally ignoring a century of Psychical Research.
But the Mind does exist and can be seen, not with the physical eyes, but with the "third eye," labeled HSP (Higher Sense Perception) by the principal investigator of HSP, Shafica Karagulla. Her best subject, "Diane," sees in every human a non-physical structure of vortices (with sub-vortices) and glowing lines, which is so close to the description of the astral body in Yoga that we might just as well go ahead and talk about "chakras," "nadi," and the "aura."
The Mind is a natural object. It has mass, conservation of energy, shape and size and internal parts. It can be weighed and studied. It has two kinds of interactions with physical objects, as well as a kind of interaction between minds that has no real analog in physics. The Mind is made of something. Mindstuff. Its properties are not very different from the "dark matter" discovered by astronomers, which makes up perhaps 90% of the universe. Not much is known about dark matter other than the absence of any interaction via the Electro-Magnetic (EM) force. But it does have gravity.
The Mind not only has gravity, it can freely bend the geodesics of space-time, without losing any energy in the process. In fact, this is the mechanism whereby the Mind gathers energy from breathing during sleep, which also agrees with Yoga. The Yogis use the term "prana" for Mental energy, and "prana" also means "breath." The geodesics are rhythmically bent in sync with the special laborious deep breathing of sleep, resisting the motion of diaphragm and abdomen. Force times distance is energy.
Being scientific means following scientific method, which many psychical researchers and UFOlogists have done. "Science" does not mean "the majority opinion of most Ph.D.s in science." That would reduce science to a religion. Many of the revolutionary discoveries in science were at first rejected by academics. This should not discourage us from continuing the scientific investigation of Psi and UFOs, even though it is hard to make a living that way, and hard to get grants.
In my book, I extend scientific method to three new areas. At least, they are new to the academics of our time. Nevertheless, I can say with Newton, that I stand on the shoulders of giants. They are just unknown giants. But someday...they will be famous and the Psi-cops like Carl Sagan or Susan Blackmore will be forgotten. No one today can name any of Galileo's colleagues at the University of Padua who refused to look through his telescope, or even look AT his telescope.
